Let’s face it: there are thousands and thousands of options out there when it comes to storage systems and organizing items. So if you’re just deciding your home is in need of a decluttering makeover, where do you start?
As an organizer, it is my job to know and be informed of the absolute best and most effective products when it comes to organization. The products below have all been used in projects I have completed with clients, and come with my highest recommendation.
Label It
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: my label maker is my spirit animal. If you want to organize your home the right way, shelving and containers are only half the battle. Labeling your containers is the key to locating your items in the future:
Chrome Wire Shelving
I can’t say enough about how much I LOVE these systems. They are the easiest things to put together, take apart, and they hold a TON of stuff (each shelf of the larger models can hold up to 350lbs). Because of their sleek design and versatility, chrome wire storage units can be used anywhere in your home:
Adjustable Shelf w/Basket (short) & Adjustable Shelving Unit (5-tier) w/Baskets (tall)
Closet & Shelf Storage
If your closets are anything like mine (small and narrow), then they could use some items that increase storage capacity. These items are inexpensive and function perfectly as space doublers:
You can also use cloth storage bins for difficult-to-store items, and in a variety of locations in your home:
Closet / Wall Systems
If you need extra space in your closet, pantry, or office (or any room with walls, really), this Rubbermaid system is a sturdy, adjustable option that can change as your style/tastes/needs do. And it’s best quality: it significantly increases your vertical storage space:
Wire shelves in the systems like the one pictured above usually have space underneath them for additional storage. So utilize that space by adding a simple wire basket:
Command Centers
It helps to have a central location for the most important things in your home. Whether you are organizing findings in your craft room, your family’s crazy schedule, or your your kid’s toy collection, there is a product that can help you get the job done right:
Flexible Self-Adhesive Magnetic Sheets & Multi-Purpose Magnetic Storage Tins
Kitchen Cabinet Storage
The cabinets in my kitchen are too short to store tall things, but too tall to effectively store my simple, sleek Corelle dish- and drink-ware. These small wire shelves are amazing at doubling my cabinet storage, and can do wonders for almost any kitchen:
Containing Small Items
Small items can be a pain to store: they are constantly getting lost and going MIA. If you use storage bags and containers to… well, contain them, then you can save yourself a lot of hassle in the future:
Happy Organizing!
